Invisible Me: The Journey of Self-Discovery

Imagine driving on the highway of life with no destination in mind, no identification of the driver—just a vehicle called life driven by a human being, fueled by the norms of society.

I got pulled over in 2018 and was asked to present my identification. I couldn’t find it; I didn’t know who I was. I mean, I knew my name, but I couldn’t explain who I was. I was taking exits without worrying about being pulled over, navigating through various communities or thoroughfares as best as I could, with no end date to driving. Sure, I made certain bathroom breaks as required, but I just refueled and went along the highway as it took me.

When questioned about who I was, I realized I was giving the explanation as people around me called me: mother, sister, friend, colleague, daughter. But that was not me.

Who was I? Who are you? Are you driving the highway with no identification? I am here to ask you to pull off, stop, and let’s start from the beginning—from “Genesis,” as far back as you can remember.

Understanding who I am took me along that journey, first with the author of my life, God, and then with the various tools of self-reflection He used to expose the true me. You see, I am no longer just on the highway with no destination in mind. I now have clarity of where the road of life is taking me. It all started with where I came from—the original plan for me. Now I can put in my GPS the intended path. Even if I hit roadblocks, I can get back on track knowing what the original plan was for me. It is a continuous revelation and one that requires changing tires and checking the engine lights.

The revelation of one’s self is a holistic approach of spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. This journey has enlightened areas of my life that were hidden, dangerous, and leading me possibly over a cliff of self-destruction.

Stay tuned to this page, where more information will be given to help you along that journey. But are you willing? Do you want to know the real you?

Are You Contributing to a Toxic Workplace?

I recently came across a quote that struck a chord: “If there is no peace within you, there will be no peace outside.” This rang especially true during my time in the corporate world. For a long time, I blamed others for the chaos, confusion, anger, and frustration I experienced at work. While it’s true that some people, driven by their own emotional issues, can create chaos, I realized that I was allowing them to steal my joy and rob me of my peace.

I had my own emotional issues that I didn’t even know existed until I started working on myself. Despite my appreciation for the 360-degree assessments—where colleagues share their thoughts on my strengths and weaknesses both professionally and personally—it took a long time for me to sit comfortably through these sessions. I was either fearful of their comments or filled with arrogance, believing I could do no wrong.

These intimate, confidential sessions exposed the darkness within me that was indirectly affecting my colleagues. They encouraged me to be mindful of my reactions during interactions with others. Let’s face it, we all have some work to do. The workplace wasn’t entirely toxic without my contribution through negative actions. But when I started to reflect on myself, I saw others differently—with more compassion and patience—creating the inner peace required to dispel the lack of peace around me.
